I have a 10.5 mile ride to work, and have run-out of juice getting there and back.

Today I dialed the boost down to 25%, and was still pushing 19.5mph the whole way there (because I was running late). I used 44% of my battery in 10.5 miles (4.2% per mile). Temps were a bit below freezing.

Then I rode normal-speed on the way home, mostly 16mph. Temps were a bit above freezing. That only used 30%. I think the 3mph lower speed made more difference than the temps.

So, I think at 25% boost, I should be good for 21 miles of riding, around freezing temps, provided I bring the battery in to warm it at work.

We’ll have to wait and see how it does at 10F or -10F, but so far, it’s looking good!

Follow up: I now have my boost set to 10%/20%/30%/40% (!). I usually ride at 20%, but if it looks like I won’t make it, I can drop down to 10%. Which is no fun… but way better than running out.

Warmer temps now: at 20F, I did my 21 mile commute, losing only 53% (2.52% per mile). Mostly riding 14mph. Then 9.8 miles today, using 29% (2.96% per mile).

I’d say that my range, at 20% boost, with the smaller RUSH/CTY battery, is about:
  • 35 miles at 20F
  • 20 miles at -4F

I rode 10 miles the other day at around 20F and had 39% remaining mostly riding with 50% assistant but a few hills at 75% ...Would the company you work for allow you to charge the battery while you’re working.
sounds reasonable:
- @20F
+ 4.1% per mile @50%
+ 2.5% per mile @20%

Actually, that looks better than I would have expected. I would have expected doubling power from 25% to 50%, would double the power consumption. In this case, multiplying "%" by 2.5x, the consumption only went up to 1.64x .

I have charged at work when it was below 0F. But my cube is next to the datacenter wall, and they're kinda paranoid... no space heaters, no non-U/L devices, etc. I try not to, but I'll probably end-up doing it.

My 10% "ECO" setting is just "for emergencies". At 10%, I think it's roughly as hard to pedal as a regular MTB.
